A Small Business Success Story. MyCorporation.com & CorpNet, founded by Nellie Alkap
…an excerpt from an article by Lauren Diethelm on Fundera.
Nellie Akalp is a wife, mother of 4, author and founder of two very successful companies. In the late 1990’s, Nellie saw an opportunity for a business that helps other businesses with proper incorporation and document filing. Even though entrepreneurs just starting out are often advised not to go into business with their partners, she and her husband started a company, MyCorporation.com. In 2005, Nellie sold her business to Intuit for millions. Rather than simply enjoy the rest of her life in retirement, Nellie launched CorpNet. CorpNet is a similar concept of her 1st company, and helps small business owners with completing paperwork and filing annual reports.
The take away:
Nellie and her husband ignored advice not to go into business together, which resulted in a hugely successful company and a $20 million dollar sale. When you’re starting a business, you’re being inundated with advice from all sides—the internet, other business owners, family and friends. But in the end, you have to make your own informed decisions. Listen to advice from people who’ve been there before, definitely. But also remember that you’ve done your homework, and can ignore the advice if it isn’t right for you.
