Entrepreneurship and Business Opportunity Take Center Stage This Month

By presidential proclamation, November 2013 is National Entrepreneurship Month, a time to “celebrate America’s innovators, support small businesses and empower entrepreneurs to turn their visions into reality.” So perhaps it’s only fitting that so much is happening over the next three or four weeks with these goals in mind, and we’re not just talking about the ever increasingly popular Small Business Saturday initiative slated to take place over Thanksgiving weekend on November 30 either.

Now recognized and actively celebrated in 139 countries worldwide and supported by dozens of world leaders as well as roughly 10,000 partner organizations, Global Entrepreneurship Week is now in its sixth year and being held the 18th through the 24th of this month. More than 1,600 events, activities and competitions already are scheduled to take place during that time, and more than 400 of them are taking place across the U.S. alone.

In addition to numerous startup and other competitive events that offer prizes and incentives of various kinds, policymakers and researchers will be examining and sharing best practices to encourage entrepreneurship and the pursuit of various business opportunities. More importantly, millions of aspiring entrepreneurs will be given the chance to connect with potential collaborators and mentors who will be ready and willing to provide not only inspiration, but much needed practical support.
